Metal Roots: From Sound to Sustainability

self-reflection.jpg

Metal Roots: From Sound to Sustainability is a voluntary photography project that wants to show the connection between the metal music scene and the environment. Being focused on portraits of musicians, fans, and festival organizers, the project tries to raise awareness about eco-conscious practices within the metal community, by showing directions towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

The Story Behind Metal Roots

My passion for metal music, storytelling, and photography, combined with my love and respect for nature inspired me to create Metal Roots.

Metal music is more than music; it is a lifestyle, it is about being yourself, it is rebellion, and a connection to something deeper. Through this project, I intend to connect these values with the environmental challenges we face today by documenting stories of those within the metal scene who are leading the way toward more eco-conscious practices whether through concrete actions or indirectly, through storytelling or any other means.

About me, the human behind this project:

My name is Iuliana Pasca, and I am a photographer specializing in portraits, particularly within the metal music scene. I grew up in a rural area of Romania which helped me learn about the importance of sustainability from an early age, and this understanding continues to guide me in my present.

Over the years, I lived in various counties like China, Italy, Spain, studying or working as a translator, teacher, and volunteer. I hold degrees in both Literature and Conflict Studies, shaping my creative perspective and storytelling approach. My experience volunteering with NGOs in Romania, Italy, and Spain, focused on minority education, children's rights, and refugee support, further informs my commitment to social and environmental causes.

Through Metal Roots: From Sound to Sustainability, I try to merge my passion for photography, metal music, and sustainability, using my work to inspire others to live more consciously and act in protecting our planet.
